Description
1) About
Kiva is an international nonprofit organisation, founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Kiva started as a pioneer in crowdfunding in 2005, and is constantly innovating to meet people’s diverse lending needs such as reinventing micro-finance with more flexible terms, supporting community-wide projects or lowering costs to borrowers. By leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of micro- finance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunities around the world. It supports people looking to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Kiva allows micro-finance institutions, social businesses, schools and non-profit organisations around the world, called “Field Partners”, to post profiles of qualified local entrepreneurs on its website lenders can then browse and choose an entrepreneur they wish to fund. Kiva covers costs primarily through optional donations, as well as through support from grants and sponsors.

4) Application Procedure
To apply the first step is filling out a simple online application for lenders to learn more about the business. One can only join the group by making a loan to another small business owner on Kiva by selecting a borrower who you can connect with and help fund a loan with as little as $25. Then one can ask their family and friends for assistance by lending to you so as to prove their credit-worthiness. Receive updates on your loans and see the money return to your Kiva account. Use your loan to grow your business and return lenders on their investment. Loans can be requested all year round.
