Description

1) About

USAID/OFDA leads and coordinates the U.S. Government’s humanitarian assistance efforts overseas. The Office responds to an average of 70 disasters in more than 50 countries every year, ensuring that aid reaches people affected by rapid onset disasters, including earthquakes, volcanoes, and floods, as well as slow-onset crises, such as drought and conflict. When disaster strikes, OFDA sends regional and technical experts to the affected country to identify and prioritize humanitarian needs. In the wake of a large-scale disaster, OFDA can deploy a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to coordinate and manage an optimal U.S. Government response, while working closely with local officials, the international community, and relief agencies. OFDA also maintains stocks of emergency relief supplies in warehouses worldwide and has the logistical and operational capabilities to deliver them quickly.

2) Thematic Interest

  • Humanitarian aid
  • Shelter
  • Health and medicine
  • Food security and nutrition
  • Protection
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Economic Recovery and Market Systems (ERMS)
  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

3) Focus Countries

They work worldwide where a disaster occurs (i.e. Iraq, Syria, Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan).

4) Application Procedure

Applications are managed via the Application and Award Management Portal (AAMP). This is a single platform for organisations to submit applications and report results. Organisations interested in becoming a USAID disaster response partner, are advised to study the Application Guidelines which lay out considerations relevant to the application review and award process and outline the main components of an unsolicited application. The Guidelines also contain sector requirements for each of the humanitarian sectors that USAID/OFDA funds. On average their annual funding volume is around $1.8 billion.
