Description
1) Objective
The Dovetail Impact Foundation established the Acceleration Portfolio in 2021 to enhance its impact by supporting smaller African nonprofit organizations with annual budgets under $400,000. The foundation recognized the potential of these organizations to effect meaningful change but acknowledged that they often lack the resources and support to maximize their impact.
Through the Acceleration Portfolio, the foundation provides unrestricted grants and tailored support to help these organizations grow their impact, refine their programs, strengthen their operations, and expand their funding base. By focusing on sectors such as health, livelihoods, justice, and education, the foundation aims to empower local leaders and grassroots organizations to address critical social challenges in their communities.
2) Eligibility
Prospective partners eligible for the Acceleration Portfolio must be locally-led African nonprofit organizations that have been operational for at least two years and are officially registered in their countries of operation. They should have an annual budget under $400,000 and possess an official Board of Directors or Trustees. Additionally, the leadership or team must be fluent enough in English to participate in capacity-building workshops conducted by the foundation.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Africa.
4) Budget
The foundation focuses on supporting African nonprofit organizations with annual budgets under $400,000, with a preference for those with budgets over $100,000.
5) Application
The application cycle for the 2024 Acceleration Cohort is open from April 5 to May 6. Eligible organizations can apply online via the Airtable platform. The application process involves two rounds, with selected finalists undergoing interviews and submitting a second-round application. Final decisions on acceptance into the Acceleration Portfolio are made after the interview stage, with the program year commencing in September.
