Description
1) Objective
The Prize is to be awarded to individuals or institutions who through their research projects or initiatives have made significant advancement within one or more of the following areas (or other related fields):
- Combatting prevalent communicable and non-communicable diseases in Africa and addressing zoonotic diseases.
- Provision of medical staff for the national health care systems (including physicians, paramedics and nursing), as well as medicine, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment.
- Building national capacity in medical research, medical education, and medical staff.
- Upgrading and maintaining of national medical facilities.
- Developing and implementing effective national health policies.
2) Eligibility
Nominations are accepted from competent regional and international institutions and scientific centers (universities, institutes and centers of scientific research) as well as from UN organizations, former winners in the field of the prize, or former evaluation
3) Location
The nominated candidates’ research and development work or projects and initiatives must be innovative and have achieved high-impact in the African continent.
4) Budget
The Prize has a value of $1,000,000 (one million US Dollars). The cash sum is awarded along with a gold medal, shield and certificate of recognition.
5) Application
The nomination form and submitted works must be received before 30 June 2024.
