Description
1) Objective
The main objective of the “Ambassador’s Special Self Help Program” is to demonstrate the interest of the United States Government for the social and economic well-being of the communities that strive to take care. The immediate objective of the program is to support local initiatives already undertaken or envisaged involving a significant Community contribution so that these efforts of self-promotion.
The project should: (1) improve the economic or social conditions at the level of the community or village; (2) support activities that may come to end within a short time (less than 12 months); (3) will have concrete results; (4) amenable to objective measures; (5) will affect a large number of beneficiaries; (6) have an important local contribution (in-kind, labor or cash whose value amounts to 25% of the total cost of the project, at least); and (7) come from the community itself, without exceeding its means to maintain or operate the project in a sustainable manner.

Non-profit organisations are eligible to apply fro this funding opportunity.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Chad.
4) Budget
On average, the funds allocated by the Embassy are of the order of $7,000, approximately FCFA $5,000,000. The project may come to end within a short time (less than 12 months). The applicant must have an important local contribution (in-kind, labor or cash whose value amounts to 25% of the total cost of the project, at least.
5) Application
Applications are sent throughout the year. The funding request must include the elements: (1) details on the bidder; (2) presentation of the project; (3) budget; and (4) documents to be attached such as a letter of authorization or support of a local authority or a letter of official recognition.
