Description
1) Objective
The Building Power for Economic Justice initiative by the Robert Bosch Stiftung aims to reduce systemic economic inequality by supporting organizations and coalitions that empower marginalized communities. The program focuses on three critical areas: the care economy, access to new technologies, and equitable distribution of wealth. It encourages applicants to explore the intersections of economic justice with issues like gender equality, disability rights, and environmental justice.
By prioritizing projects driven by those with lived experience of inequality, the foundation seeks to foster inclusive and community-led solutions to systemic economic challenges.
2) Eligibility
To qualify for funding, organizations must be registered entities with a charitable mission focused on economic justice and operate with an annual budget between €100,000 and €3 million. Coalitions or partnerships can also apply, provided they demonstrate clear power-sharing mechanisms that involve grassroots organizations in decision-making. Additionally, organizations already receiving funding from the Robert Bosch Stiftung are not eligible. The program emphasizes direct community empowerment over intermediary work and prioritizes projects that engage marginalized groups in leadership and decision-making processes.
3) Location
The initiative is open to organizations operating in East, South, and Southeast Asia; Europe, Central and North Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; Southwest Asia and North Africa; and Sub-Saharan Africa. It also accepts applications from organizations with global or regional operations. This broad geographical scope aims to address economic inequalities in diverse contexts and amplify regional voices in economic justice movements.
4) Budget
The program offers grants ranging from €100,000 to €400,000 per organization or coalition, with funding distributed over a minimum of two years and a maximum of five. These funds can be used for ongoing projects, organizational development, and staff well-being. However, the program does not cover infrastructure costs, technology development, or academic research without direct community collaboration. Up to 20% of the grant can be allocated for general administrative expenses.
5) Application
The application process begins with an open call from November 6 to December 15, 2024. In the first stage, applicants submit a virtual form detailing their organization and its work. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by late January 2025 and invited to complete a more detailed application by the end of February 2025.
