Description

1) Objective

The global objective of this call for proposals is to support Civil Society Organisation to initiate, promote and strengthen active citizenship in pursuit of meaningful, equitable, sustainable, inclusive, and value-based development in South Africa.

The specific objective(s) of this call for proposals are:

  • To strengthen the capacity of CSOs to effectively initiate, lead and promote participatory development planning and implementation, engage in meaningful multi-stakeholder policy dialogues (that includes local communities, local authorities and the private sector), and participate in the design, monitoring and implementation of local development initiatives in pursuit of the just transition in South Africa.
  • To strengthen the capacity of local communities, including local government authorities to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the private sector, to mobilize resources for sustainable local economic development in pursuit of the just transition, while promoting transparency and accountability.
  • Strengthened capacity of CSOs to engage in the promotion of an enabling environment as it relates to the reduction of CO2 emissions, green transition, Global Gateway strategy/projects (including environmental, social and governance standards).

2) Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must: (1) be a legal person and (2) be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisation, public sector operator, local authority, international (inter-governmental) organisation and (3) be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.

Actions can take place in South Africa.

4) Budget

The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is €3,625,000. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the minimum €500,000 and maximum €1,000,000. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the minimum (50%) and maximum (95%) percentage of total eligible costs of the action.

5) Application

The full application together with the declaration by the lead applicant must be submitted. The deadline for the submission is 30 September 2025.
