Description
1) Objective
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) Democracy Small Grants program invites proposals for programs that foster the development of civil society and public engagement in Ukraine, contribute to open and competitive political and economic systems and to the protection of human rights. This funding opportunity seeks to support initiatives that address the most pressing issues in Ukraine, including veterans’ rights, the rights of people with disabilities, protection of other vulnerable groups, combating corruption, and promoting accountability and transparency.
The Democracy Commission Small Grants Program seeks proposals for projects that support objectives that include, but are not limited to the following:
- Defending and protecting human rights, including veterans’ rights, rights of the families of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers, survivors of Russian captivity, IDPs, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups;
- Supporting the efforts to enable the revitalization and reconstruction of the previously liberated areas within Ukraine;
- Empowering newly established non-governmental organizations in Ukraine and fostering public engagement, assisting operation of the non-governmental organizations and initiatives in the liberated regions of Ukraine;
- Promoting government transparency and combating corruption (with the focus on regional level);
- Promoting awareness among the Ukrainian civic population regarding the potential challenges linked to the ongoing war (ex. demining education);
- Fostering civil education, civil engagement and activism (especially among youth).
2)Eligibility
Eligible applicants are Ukrainian non-governmental organizations registered in accordance with Ukrainian law and with programming experience are eligible to apply.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Ukraine.
4) Budget
Awards may range from a minimum of $25,000 to a maximum of $250,000. Total available funding is $800,000.
