Description

1) Objective

EEP Africa is seeking applications for its 2024 Call for Proposals to fund innovative early-stage clean energy projects in Southern and Eastern Africa. The initiative aims to support companies, start-ups, and social enterprises that are developing clean energy solutions and require financial assistance to advance their projects. The funding is intended to catalyze the growth of sustainable and scalable clean energy businesses that can contribute to the region’s economic development and environmental sustainability.

By providing financial support, EEP Africa aims to facilitate access to clean energy, promote local engagement and innovation, and encourage the participation of women entrepreneurs and locally-led organizations. The program is designed to identify and back projects that demonstrate a clear need for EEP Africa financing and can show potential for impact in the clean energy sector.

2) Eligibility

Eligible applicants include private companies, start-ups, and social enterprises that have been registered as legal entities for at least six months prior to the Expression of Interest (EoI) opening date. These entities should have early-stage projects in development and must demonstrate local engagement and a strong presence in the target country.

3) Location

The target countries for this call include Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

4) Budget

The financing available ranges from €200,000 to 1,000,000 in the form of grants and repayable grants. Applicants are required to provide co-financing of 30-50% of the total project budget, which varies based on the project phase and the maturity of the company.

5) Application

The application process is structured in two stages: an Expression of Interest (EoI) followed by a Full Proposal. The deadline for the EoI submission is 15 March 2024, and the Full Proposal must be submitted by 19 July 2024. All applications need to be made through the EEP Africa online application platform. The process includes a virtual bootcamp and pitching sessions for longlisted applicants, leading to the selection of candidates for the full proposal stage.
