Description
1) Objective
The situation in Bulgaria In 2024, about 8.5% of fourth graders had a poor score in the national external assessment in Bulgarian language. This represents the so-called educational poverty and is measured by the proportion of 10-year-olds who cannot read and understand a simple written history.
National and international studies in the field of education in Bulgaria, as well as the national standardized assessment of the education attainment of children and young people, clearly show that many of them find it difficult to read and, in particular, to make sense of what they have read and transfer it as knowledge in real life. 53% of ninth graders lacked elementary reading skills, according to the latest international survey PISA (2022).
