The global objective of this call for proposals is to contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya. The specific objective of this call for proposals is to Support Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) organisations working at grassroots level in Kenya. The priority of this call for proposals is to support Human Right Defenders organisations supporting human right defenders in one or more critical human rights domains in Kenya, such as the defence of minority groups, women rights, land-related rights, environmental rights, albinism, the fight against torture, etc. Indicative types of actions aim at: (1) strengthening capacities of local human rights defenders and HRD organisations (e.g. training on advocacy, litigation, strategies of change, research, monitoring and reporting about violations of human rights and impunity); (2) monitoring and investigation on human rights violations, including fact-finding missions and dissemination of findings; (3) provision of medical and psychological assistance, legal counselling and any other type of support; (4) awareness-raising on human rights and international law standards, increasing accountability, and combatting cultures of impunity; (5) advocacy, lobbying and development of strategies to create a better environment for HRDs and HRD organisations; and (6) participation in public dialogue/ Collaboration with National Human Rights Institutions.
In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must: (1) be a legal person; (2) be non-profit-making; (3) be a Civil Society Organisation, an Association of CSOs or a public sector non-profit agencies, institutions and organisations(including the National Human Rights Institutions); and (4) be established in a Member State of the European Union or any other country. However, where the lead applicant is not established in Kenya, it must act with minimum one co-applicant established in Kenya.
Actions must take place in Kenya.
The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is €1,798,750. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between €385,000 and €445,000. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the minimum (50%) and maximum (95%) percentage of total eligible costs of the action.
