Description
1) Objective
The OPEC Fund Annual Award for Development (AAD) celebrates outstanding contributions to sustainable development. Each year, it recognizes a different theme of particular relevance to the global development agenda. Clean cooking is a key driver for achieving SDG 7. Clean cooking solutions reduce pollution (SDG 13), improve the health and wellbeing of millions of people in developing countries – particularly women and children – (SDG 3), and make an important contribution to inclusive and sustainable communities (SDG 10 & 11).
There has been limited progress made on clean cooking over the past decade. In response, the G20 Energy Ministerial Communiqué recently endorsed a ‘G20 Initiative on Clean Cooking and Energy Access’. Bold leadership is needed to strengthen clean cooking efforts and to foster greater cooperation to address the challenge of universal access. The OPEC Fund is dedicating its 2021 Annual Award for Development to an organization that demonstrates excellence in innovating and implementing clean cooking solutions for communities in need.
2) Eligibility
The nominee must be an established, nongovernmental non-profit organization operating in a country or countries other than the OPEC Fund member countries or stakeholders (Algeria, Ecuador, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar (stakeholder), Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela) and OPEC member countries (as above, and including Angola, Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea).
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
The AAD includes a US$100,000 prize.
5) Application
The application deadline is 1 June 2021.
