Description
1) Objective
The “Global Initiative Against Impunity for International Crimes and Serious Human Rights Violations: Making Justice Work” is an EU-co-founded programme aimed at promoting comprehensive justice and accountability for serious human rights violations globally. Civil Rights Defenders, in conjunction with a consortium of nine organizations and two associate partners, has launched a call for proposals to support local actors worldwide. The initiative emphasizes inclusive and integrated approaches to transitional justice, focusing on areas that are under-documented and addressing gaps in current systems.
Project proposals should contribute to the enhanced participation of right-holders in justice processes and the effectiveness of accountability frameworks to combat impunity. This involves victim-centred, trauma-informed, and gender-transformative justice. The programme seeks to leverage the expertise of civil society organizations to shape judicial processes and engage decision-makers, ensuring a holistic approach to justice and accountability. By supporting these initiatives, the programme aims to foster resilience, accountability, and comprehensive justice for victims and survivors of serious human rights violations, thereby reinforcing global human rights standards.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be registered or non-registered civil society organizations (CSOs), including those operating in exile. These CSOs should be non-profit, actively involved in shaping judicial processes, engaging with decision-makers on the fight against impunity, and working on holistic justice and accountability processes. They must also demonstrate the capacity to manage the financial support requested and provide detailed reports on its use and impact.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
Grants will range from EUR 30,000 to EUR 60,000, with exceptional projects potentially receiving up to EUR 80,000. The implementation period for funded projects is between 6 to 18 months. The budget should be prepared in EUR, and detailed budget templates are provided in the application guidelines.
5) Application
The application process opens on July 17, 2024, and the deadline for submission is August 17, 2024, at 23:59 CET. Applicants must submit a narrative proposal, a budget proposal in EUR, proof of registration (if applicable), the organization’s most recent annual report and/or financial statements, and supporting documents for payment details. Applications must be completed in English. Online information sessions in multiple languages will be held from July 23-25, 2024, with registration closing on July 22, 2024. Detailed guidelines and templates for the proposals are available on the initiative’s website.
