Description
1) Objective
The U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste through the public affairs section announces an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out programs that strengthen the U.S.-Timorese partnership, bolster democratic institutions, including through strengthened civic participation and media reporting, and expand economic prosperity and opportunity. Applications should include a U.S. element or connection with an American expert, organization, or institution.
Priority Program Areas are:
- U.S.-Timorese partnership: Activities that advance the bilateral relationship between the United States and Timor-Leste, including but not limited to programs engaging emerging leaders in the 20th anniversary of U.S.-Timorese diplomatic relations through the Embassy’s campaign entitled “Friends, Partners, Opportunities.”
- Democratic Values: Activities that promote the democratic values that underpin the U.S.-Timorese partnership, including but not limited to civic participation of emerging leaders and marginalized groups, human rights, rule of law, freedom of expression, gender equality, and LGBTQI+ rights.
- Media Reporting: Activities that strengthen Timorese media reporting capacity, free and independent media development, media literacy, and efforts to counter misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda.
- Economic Prosperity and Opportunity: Activities that widen access to U.S. higher education, empower youth- and women-led efforts to strengthen competitiveness, promote English language education, and strengthen climate adaptation and resilience.
2) Eligibility
Eligible are Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education, Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education, Individuals, Public and State controlled institutions of higher education, County governments, City or township governments.
3) Location
Actions must take place in East-Timor.
4) Budget
Grants may range from $2,000-$20,000.
5) Application
The application deadline is 1 September 2022.
