Description
1) Objective
The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka is seeking applications for its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) to support various development projects with a view to enhance human security at the grass-roots level. There is an increasing need for cooperation by the entire international community to realize a peaceful and affluent society in which everybody can live their individual lives in a humane manner.
The overall goal of GGP is to enhance the wellbeing of people at the grassroots level, based on the concept of human security, for example:
(1) education: primary education, illiteracy reduction, vocational training, governance, and human resource development in communities; (2) health & sanitation: primary health care, family planning, HIV/AIDS, rehabilitation for people with disabilities, and communicable diseases; (3) livelihoods & agriculture: environmental protection, social welfare for people with disabilities, street children and the elderly, gender issues, violence against women, women’s empowerment, and education for girls; and (4) others: disaster planning and prevention, water supply, community development, peace, demining.
2) Eligibility
Non-profit organisations, which have implemented economic and social development projects, e.g. local NGOs, international NGOs, educational institutions, medical institutions, etc are eligible to apply.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Sri Lanka.
4) Budget
The grant amount per project is generally not more than 10,000,000 YEN (approximately $90,000 in Japanese FY 2017). The amount of the grant will be equivalent to the total amount of the project cost estimation. The project must be completed within one year from the date of the Grant Contract.
5) Application
They accept applications through-out the year. However, applications are screened once a year from September. Therefore, it is advised to submit applications by 30 September. Applications submitted after that will be forwarded to next year for review. However, applicants are advised to submit applications well in advance to avail sufficient time for review and discussion.
