Description
1) Objective
The Terra Symbiosis Foundation was set up in response to the overwhelming feeling that our civilisation must change and that our globalised economy and our growth are no longer compatible with the limited resources of our planet. The Terra Symbiosis Foundation was set up at the beginning of 2009 by Patricia Jung, under the ægis of the Fondation de France. The Foundation gives preference to these activities (1) promoting sustainable agriculture, (2) developing forest products and agroforestry, and (3) children and nature.
The aim of the Foundation is to support human development in a sustainable way. Its intention is to conserve ecosystems for the long term and help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a more rational use of the environment. In the developing countries, the so-called South, the aim is to improve living conditions for peoples by enhancing their ability to use their environment in a sustainable way. The fight against poverty by means of the development and protection of natural resources will be central to the Foundation’s priorities. In France, the aims are to raise awareness of the dangers of global warming and to promote a way of life that has greater respect for the environment, through concrete projects.
2) Eligibility
Eligible for funding are small and medium-sized, non-profit organisations based in their territory, promoting activities related to the protection and use of the environment, such as ecological agriculture and sustainable management of the forest. Projects must be supported by French associations.
3) Location
Outside of France, where most projects are currently funded, they are currently supporting projects in India and Morocco.
4) Budget
Grant sizes vary, depending on the nature of the project (between €1,000 and €10,000 per year). The Foundation strongly prefers a financial contribution by the applicant (may also be in-kind) or by other donors.
5) Application
Applications can be sent throughout the year, using the application format that can be downloaded from their website. Applications can be sent in French or English. There are two annual Board meetings, in March and September, where funding decisions are taken. Calls are also launched in between on a case by case basis.
