Description
1) Objective
The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan. Among other working areas, the Fund also supports civil society by fostering democratic initiatives, rule of law, and regional cooperation. It runs the The Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation (BST) which promotes: (1) regional cooperation and good governance in the Wider Black Sea region; (2) accountable, transparent, and open governments; (3) strong, effective civic sectors; and (4) independent and professional media.
BST does this by awarding grants through its 3 program areas which are open all year: (1) civic participation – fighting corruption, ICT and democracy, freedom of the media; (2) cross-border initiatives – cross-border dialogues among governmental entities, civic organisations, and policy institutes; and (3) Eastern links – creation of linkages between new EU member states and the countries of the Black Sea region.
2) Eligibility
Eligible for funding are usually civic groups, NGOs, media organisations, think tanks, governments, and education institutions.
3) Location
Civic participation is open for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Ukraine; Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States for Eastern links.
4) Budget
There are no minimum or maximum grant sizes. The amount of assistance is decided based on the details of the project and the project budget plan.
5) Application
All inquiries and project proposals should be sent to BlackSeaTrust(a)gmfus.org. BST accepts proposals on a rolling basis for this program. Only project proposals using BST application forms (narrative and budget) will be taken into consideration. The forms can be downloaded from their website.
