Description

1) Objective

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) was established in September 1986 as a private not-for-profit foundation, with endowments from the Nippon Foundation and the Japanese motorboat racing industry. Since then, it has engaged in various projects and activities aimed at contributing to human welfare, advancement of sound international society, and establishment of world peace through international understanding, international exchange, and international cooperation. Idea submissions can be sent for:

  • Peacebuilding Program: Peacebuilding/De-radicalization/Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda
  • Ocean Policy Research Institute: Solutions for ocean issues, sustainable use of ocean

2) Eligibility

Foundations, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions including universities, and organizations engaging in nonprofit activities are eligible to submit ideas. Ideas are welcome regardless of nationality.

3) Location

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation operates in Asia, the Middle East, Pacific Islands and Latin America but most of their funding goes to Asia Pacific.

4) Budget

The yearly budget per project is ranging from $20,000 to $100,000. Grant period is one to three years (for projects lasting two years or more, the grant contract is renewed every year).

5) Application

Idea submissions can be sent throughout the year via their website. While there is the possibility that an idea submission may lead to grant projects, please be aware that the rate of acceptance is extremely low. If an idea submission leads to the creation of a grant project or other self-implemented project, they will follow up directly with additional information.
