Description

1) Objective

The funding instrument, Individual Projects South, is available to Austrian civil society organisations (CSOs) that implement multi-year projects in developing countries together with local partner organisations. The partners must retain responsibility (ownership). Another criterion is cooperation with other local and international organisations and interest groups and alignment of activities with the policies and strategies of partner countries.

Co-Funded projects aim at poverty reduction, good governance, human security and the preservation of a liveable environment according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Three Year Programme on Austrian Development Policy. Thematic foci are rural development, food security, water supply and sanitation, education, human rights and peacebuilding, disaster preparedness, environment and climate change as well as migration and development. Projects must be in accordance with national and local strategies of the respective partner country.

2) Eligibility

Legal entities such as societies, foundations, trade unions, regional/local administrative bodies or other public institutions based in Austria (in partnership with local organisations) are eligible.

3) Location

Actions must take place in: (1) Funding rate 80% of project costs for ADC priority countries: Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Palestine, Uganda; (2) Funding rate 55% of project costs for the following countries: Least Developed Countries in Africa, mainly for projects addressing the topics Water Resource Management, Peace and Security, Gender and Women Empowerment (proposals addressing these topics will be given preference in the funding decision); (3) Afghanistan, Irak, Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Syria; (4) Funding rate 25% of project costs for: remaining Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries & Lower Middle Income Countries.

4) Budget

The maximum amount of funding by ADA is €300,000 per individual project. The total project budget (all financial means for project implementation) must amount to a minimum of €350,000 and should not exceed €600,000. The funding rate depends on the country in which the project is carried out. In principle, the funding rate is 25% of the total project budget. For focus countries, the funding rate is up to 80% of the total project budget.

5) Application

The annual submission deadline for grant applications is 20 September. A full proposal needs to be submitted via email.  The funding application consists of: Application form including timetable, Logical framework, Project Budget, Bank data sheet, and Checklists: Environmental Integration, Gender & Social Standards Assessment.
