Description
1) Objective
The micro-project programme provides funds for beneficiaries in Sierra Leone under the aspect of social, humanitarian and charitable aid. It focusses on underprivileged groups in society. Financing can be solicited for every project at any location in the country, with the aim of sustainably improving the (essential) living conditions of a group of persons or communities.
This can be the promotion of a producer’s co-operative, financing the rehabilitation of a community primary school, of a health post (trained, state enrolled and state registered nurses as indigenes from the community, proven of community ownership, and sustainability) and other similar small-scale community-oriented projects directed at income-generation, rehabilitation of moderate vocational training centres, the provision of learning materials, improving general infrastructure, food security or agriculture, construction of water-wells, solar-energy, rehabilitation of community feeder roads and building of community culvert bridges, and promotion of marginalized women or youth groups or areas.

Local non-profit organisations are eligible.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Sierra Leone.
4) Budget
Grant sizes are usually below €10,000. It should be categorically noted that the Embassy does not co-finance a project or sets of projects, irrespective of the nature and suitability of the project objectives listed. Salaries, conferences, travel and related travel costs, workshops, and direct micro-credit programmes cannot be financed by the Embassy. The project has to be descrete and accomplished within one budget year, and executed within three to four months. Any delay in the completion of a project will have to be only with the prior permission of the Embassy.
5) Application
Organisation can first submit a brief description of the project on a maximum of one page exclusively by e-mail to info(a)freetown.diplo.de. The brief description should in particular make clear who is doing what, where, for what purpose, when, at what cost and in what form the beneficiaries are participating. More details and the filled form will only be requested if the project proposal was accepted in principle.
