Description
1) Objective
UNHCR will continue working with Yemeni authorities and its partners to protect and assist refugees and asylum-seekers, including facilitating Assisted Spontaneous Returns (ASR) where appropriate. All protection interventions will be underpinned by a community-based protection approach, promoting sustainability, accountability, and refugee participation in shaping the response. Community-based protection will serve as a cornerstone of the protection strategy in Yemen. Despite ongoing challenges, UNHCR remains committed to delivering life-saving protection and assistance.
Given operational constraints and limited funding, efforts will focus on core protection activities, including: (1) Legal assistance, registration, and civil documentation; (2) Border monitoring and prevention of refoulement; (3) Case management and referrals for child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and other complex protection needs. Other key sectors such as education and health will continue to face critical gaps due to resource limitations.
