Description
1) Objective
Set up in 1997, the NLnet Foundation aims to promote the exchange of electronic information and all that is related or beneficial to that purpose. They provide funding to organisations and people that contribute to an open information society. Apart from funding support, the Foundation also supports ideas with a global network of potential partners, projects, and experts.
They are looking for new ideas and core technologies that help society tackle hard but very very important challenges, each of which has significant social and economic consequences. The project results become available under an open source license, so anyone can read and validate the source code, and anyone can use the code to create technology that fits their own purposes.
Among others they are looking to deliver architectures, protocols and services to ensure that end-users can exert their rights (e.g. under the GDPR) and benefit from decentralised technological solutions that ensure that they are fully in control of their personal data on the Internet. They assist independent researchers and developers to create powerful new technologies, and to help them put it in the hands of future generations as building blocks for a fair and democratic society and a sustainable and open economy that benefits all.
2) Eligibility
Eligibility is open to all. You can apply as an individual, or as a formal or informal organisation of any type. Or even a collaboration of the two.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide but there is a focus on EU states.
4) Budget
They are seeking project proposals between €5,000 and €50,000 — with the possibility to scale them up if there is proven potential.
5) Application
The sixth call of NGI Zero Entrust opened on August 1st 2023, with a deadline of October 1st 2023 12:00 CEST (noon).
