Ouagadougou Greenbelt Biodiversity Restoration

Description

1) Objective

The U.S. Embassy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is inviting applications for the “Ouagadougou Greenbelt Biodiversity Restoration” project (Funding Opportunity Number: ECON-BF-FY24-ESF-NOFO-001). This initiative aims to rehabilitate an urban green site to address climate change, reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance community livelihoods and resilience. The project seeks to create a sustainable greenbelt that can serve as a model for biodiversity restoration and urban greening.

By restoring the greenbelt, the project will help mitigate the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and provide a habitat for local wildlife. Additionally, the project will engage local communities in the restoration process, offering education and training opportunities to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable land management practices. The total estimated program funding is $100,000, with award amounts ranging from a minimum of $25,000 to a maximum of $100,000. This funding will be provided through a cooperative agreement, with the U.S. Embassy actively involved in the implementation and oversight of the project.

5) Application

Interested organizations must submit their applications by August 19, 2024.
