Description
1) Objective
The Equality Fund has launched “Prepare,” a new funding opportunity aimed at supporting grassroots feminist movements in crisis preparation and response. Part of the broader “Prepare, Respond and Care” grantmaking stream, “Prepare” focuses on building resilience and developing long-term solutions to crises. The grant targets four key areas: Visionary Capacity, Warning Systems (Infrastructure), Political Building, and Narrative Change. These areas aim to strengthen the ability to foresee and plan for challenges, create early warning systems, enhance political strategies, and shift public narratives towards feminist crisis responses.
The initiative prioritizes strategies that center the needs, voices, and leadership of women, girls, gender-expansive people, and other marginalized groups disproportionately impacted by crises. By fostering community-led approaches, the Equality Fund seeks to ensure that solutions are contextually relevant, collaborative, and sustainable, extending beyond immediate needs. This initiative responds to the urgent global climate marked by multiple crises, emphasizing the necessity of robust support for feminist activists and organizations to build resilience and strategize for better futures.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants include women’s rights and feminist organizations, groups, networks, and collectives based in the Global South and East, specifically in ODA-eligible countries. Current Equality Fund grantee partners are not eligible to apply but can participate in collaborative initiatives.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide in OECD DAC countries.
4) Budget
Successful applicants will receive total grant amounts in the range of CAD $500,000 to $1,000,000 depending on the specifics of the proposal.
5) Application
The application process begins with an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be submitted between June 28, 2024, and July 24, 2024, via the online Community Portal. Applicants must first complete an Eligibility Quiz. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full advanced application in October 2024.
