Description
1) Objective
WILPF is seeking to support new, emerging, and long-standing feminist organisations in the MENA region as they develop their own feminist solutions to address conflicts, injustice, and (structural) violence; and to achieve feminist peace through a holistic resourcing approach. With the aim to support and contribute to an inclusive, intersectional, and robust peace movement within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, WILPF is proud to launch the ‘Resourcing Feminist Resistance in the MENA Region’ initiative.
Across the region, feminist actors have grappled with a host of challenges that impede their growth and sustainability. From navigating global crises and regional events to confronting humanitarian disasters and facing social and political backlashes, these obstacles include restricted and politicised funding, burnout, stress, and a multitude of other barriers. Nonetheless, feminist organisations, groups, movements, and individuals persist in championing the rights of women and marginalised communities in various domains, encompassing legal, cultural, educational, and economic perspectives. In their endeavours, they continue to surface with aspirations that cater to local and contextual needs, challenging distant and uniform international, regional, and national priorities rooted in (neo)-colonial structures. Their efforts centre around advocating for more inclusive approaches that articulate their demands, safeguarding and reflecting the experiences and necessities of their own communities.
2) Eligibility
In the quest to support these inspiring feminist organisations in the MENA region as they devise their own feminist solutions to tackle conflicts, injustice, and (structural) violence, and to achieve feminist peace, the new call is open to feminist organising that aligns with the following criteria: (1) Demonstrates a track record of conducting feminist grassroots activism through community organising, resistance to the status quo, and patriarchal and militarised structures, aimed at furthering social justice for systematic change and feminist peace; (2) Be primarily governed, led, and/or directed by people from the community that the organisation seeks to serve; (3) Focuses on the MENA region in their operational scope and engages with local communities as their target; (4) Exhibits limitations in receiving funds to operate or execute certain initiatives; (5) Demonstrates commitment to learn and share knowledge with other organisations; and (6) Is not a current granting partner of WILPF.
3) Location
Actions must take place in MENA: Syria, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt.
4) Budget
