Description
1) Objective
The Alongside Wildlife Foundation is pleased to announce a 2021 Request for Proposals specifically for projects that are led by or will increase involvement of minorities and members of marginalized groups in wildlife conservation. Beyond this overarching goal, The Alongside Wildlife Foundation will support projects that involve: (1) collecting data (including basic natural history information) that can inform plans that allow people to live alongside wildlife; (2) communicating science to communities with the goal of reducing human/wildlife conflict; and/or (3) implementing science-based strategies for living alongside wildlife populations.
The Alongside Wildlife Foundation grant program is designed to support projects that are important yet typically overlooked by most funding agencies and organizations. There have been increasing calls to recognize and appreciate natural history but the necessary research is rarely prioritized; now The Alongside Wildlife Foundation can help fund projects that generate this basic but vital information about the species alongside us. Projects should focus on terrestrial and shoreline-associated animals (including invertebrates). They do not generally fund marine work. They do not fund projects that propose lethal solutions to human/wildlife conflict. They do not fund wildlife rehabilitation work. The science communication efforts we fund tend to involve novel and/or innovative outreach efforts and non-traditional audiences.
