Description
1) Objective
The U.S. Embassy Ashgabat Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce funding is available through the Embassy’s Small Grants program. Funding is available for projects that address the priority areas below and focus on Public Affairs’ key audiences, including: civil society organizations, entrepreneurs/innovators, women, and youth (14-25 years old). Priority themes: (1) economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable populations to advance economic independence and sustainable development. (commercial activity or specific businesses/startups will not be considered); (2) promoting rule of law and legal reform; (3) assisting people with disabilities; and (4) promoting environmental awareness by creating citizen understanding of sustainable management of ecosystems and natural resources.
Other themes are: (1) promotion of a robust civil society that advances the civil rights of all population segments; (2) strengthening social partnership and dialogue among government and civil society organizations; (3) inter-faith and inter-ethnic dialogue; religious freedom (religious activities which advance or inhibit one religion over another, or one interpretation of a religion over another, will not be considered); and (4) combatting human trafficking.
2) Eligibility
This program supports the development of Turkmenistan’s democratic institutions and civil society by competitively awarding small grants to Turkmenistan non-profit, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and associations, and to non-profit civil society organizations (CSOs). State bodies are encouraged to work with NGOs to submit applications.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Turkmenistan.
4) Budget
Maximum award amount is $20,000 and minimum award amount is $3,000. Anticipated period of performance is 6-12 months. Expected number of awards is 10.
5) Application
Applications may be submitted at any time. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received, with two intermediate deadlines: May 30 at 18:00 and December 31 18:00 Ashgabat local time.
