Description
1) Objective
The German Diplomatic and Consular Missions in India operate a programme which enables them to provide direct financial assistance to Indian and Bhutanese NGOs and religious institutions for the implementation of small-scale projects for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society. Suitable projects can come from any sectors of poverty reduction, public health and sanitation improvement, income generation, basic education, vocational training, women empowerment, protection of the environment or else.
- Infrastructure and environmental protection: Equipment and materials for constructing / repairing an irrigation system, a water dam, a bridge, a road; Constructing / furnishings and equipment for a community centre; Constructing biogas or photovoltaic plants or a water dam for electricity supply
- Health: Constructing / furnishings and equipment for a drinking water well, a community health centre, a dental clinic, an eye clinic, public sanitary facilities, a laboratory; Promoting health awareness through publications or workshops; Workshop for mothers with handicapped children
- Education: Constructing / repairing / furnishings and equipment for a school building; Purchasing educational & teaching materials; Equipment for vocational training (sewing machines, special tools, work benches)
- Income generation: Purchasing tools and machinery for farming or motors for small fishing boats; Constructing / repairing crop storage facilities; Purchasing seedlings for cultivation of crops, fruits & vegetables; Workshop on how to run a small business
2) Eligibility
To be eligible the implementing agency must be an experienced, qualified and reliable organisation, preferably a non-governmental organisation (NGO) registered under the Societies Registration Act, or a religious institution. The organisation must be registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
3) Location
Actions must take place in India and Bhutan.
4) Budget
Grant sizes tend to be small (a few thousand €). The project has to be completed within six months and before the end of the year. Project proposals have to be accompanied by at least 3 competitive quotations/cost estimates (in Rupees) for each item to be purchased/constructed from the grant. The implementing agency does also have to contribute financially to the project and has to be in a position to finance all upcoming follow-up/running costs for a period of at least 2 years.
5) Application
Project proposals should be submitted to the Embassy in original until 31 January 2024. For this purpose, application forms can be found on the website. Applications received by email only cannot be considered. They fund around 5-7 projects each year.
