Description
1) Objective
The SO-JUST project calls for proposals from qualified Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to develop and implement programmes for justice sector service providers, addressing the following objectives:
a. To sensitize 100 justice service providers (staff of the Legal Aid Council and Ministry of Justice, legal aid attorneys, prosecutors and related customer service staff) island-wide on special requirements for providing legal and justice services to deaf and hard of hearing persons.
b. To develop and implement a tailored training programme in Jamaican Sign Language for legal and justice service providers.
c. To train 80 legal and justice service providers in Jamaican Sign Language, disaggregated as follows: 80% female, 20% male, 20% from rural areas.
d. To develop written protocols and guidelines for providing legal services to deaf and hard of hearing persons and publish same for print and electronic distribution.
This Call for Proposals falls under Output 3: Strengthened Legal Aid Services to Women and Underserved Communities which seeks to increase access to justice for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and strengthen the capacity of the justice system to implement gender-responsive social justice policies and programmes.
