Description
1) Objective
The U.S. Embassy Libreville, through the U.S. Department of State, announces the Special Self-Help Program for small, community-based development projects. This program aims to support Gabonese communities with modest grants that foster self-reliance and significantly impact local economic and social conditions. The funded projects must involve community participation and contributions, such as volunteer time, labor, donated land, equipment, and materials.
The U.S. contribution is strictly a one-time basis to encourage sustainability. Projects must benefit the largest number of people possible, improve basic economic or social conditions, and be financially viable and sustainable. They must also respect environmental norms and be within the community’s capacity to implement.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants for this grant include not-for-profit organizations (including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations), public and private educational institutions, and individuals coordinating projects that benefit a large segment of the community.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Gabon.
4) Budget
The estimated total program funding is $25,000, with the award ceiling set at $15,000 and the award floor at $5,000. Up to four awards are expected to be granted within this budget range.
5) Application
Applications must be submitted by August 1, 2024. Interested applicants should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements and follow the guidelines provided by the U.S. Mission to Gabon. For additional details or assistance in accessing the full announcement, applicants can contact the Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy Libreville.
