Description
1) Objective
PAS Lilongwe invites proposals for programs that strengthen cultural ties between the U.S. and Malawi through cultural and exchange programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation between the people of the two countries. All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Examples of PAS Small Grants Program programs include, but are not limited to:
• Academic and professional lectures, seminars, and speaker programs.
• Artistic and cultural workshops, joint performances, and exhibitions.
• Professional and academic exchanges and programs
Priority Program Areas are:
• Promote Good Governance and Rule of Law
• Facilitate and encourage growth of youth entrepreneurship
• Facilitate economic growth through increased private sector trade with U.S. private companies
• Promote gender equality to increase adolescent girls and young women’s participation in education and improved health decision-making
• Promote stronger, more numerous University partnerships between U.S. and Malawian Universities
• Increase transparency of government activities through a more capable media.
• Supporting and improving conditions for vulnerable and marginalized citizens, such as the disabled, people living with albinism, and those subject to stigma or persecution.
• Preventing Gender-Based Violence and Trafficking in Persons
2) Eligibility
PAS encourages applications from organizations located in Malawi, the U.S., or abroad:
• Registered not-for-profit organizations
• Civil society/non-governmental organizations with at least two years of programming experience
• Educational institutions
3) Location
Actions must take place in Malawi.
4) Budget
The total funding amount is $60,000. Funding may range from to $1,000-$20,000.
5) Application
Proposals must be submitted to the U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe at the following email address: LilongwePAS@State.gov. Applications are accepted in English only. Final grant agreements will be concluded in English. PAS will accept proposals throughout the year but will only review proposals three times a year. Below are the dates of review:
• Proposals received between October 2020 and January 2021 will be reviewed by February 20, 2021 with responses delivered by February 28, 2021.
• Proposals received between February 2021 – April 2021will be reviewed by May 20, 2021 with responses delivered by May 30, 2021
• Proposal received between June 20 – August 20, 2021 will be reviewed by August 30, 2021 with responses delivered by September 05, 2021.
