Description
1) Objective
The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery aims to alleviate the suffering of over 40 million people worldwide affected by modern slavery. By awarding grants to civil society organizations, the Fund provides comprehensive assistance to victims, including humanitarian, psychological, social, legal, medical, and financial support. Emphasizing a victim-centered approach, the Fund reaches individuals in remote areas and empowers grassroots initiatives. It plays a crucial role in the UN’s anti-slavery framework, offering direct relief to victims and strengthening resilience among survivors and civil society.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants are civil society organizations that provide assistance to victims of contemporary forms of slavery. This includes entities offering humanitarian, legal, social, medical, and psychological services to slavery survivors.
3) Location
The Fund operates globally, providing grants to organizations in over 100 countries. It focuses on areas where contemporary forms of slavery are prevalent and where victims require assistance.
4) Budget
Grants awarded by the Fund range from $15,000 to $30,000. In 2023, the Fund distributed a total of $881,500 across 38 grants to assist slavery survivors in various countries.
5) Application
The application cycle for the Fund opens annually from January 15 to March 1. Organizations interested in applying must submit their proposals within this timeframe. The application process includes submitting a concise concept note and, if selected, a full proposal. The Fund’s Secretariat evaluates applications, which may include on-site visits.
