Description
1) About
SIDA is a government agency working on behalf of the Swedish parliament and government, with the mission to reduce poverty in the world. It implements the Swedish development policy that will enable poor people to improve their lives. SIDA works with civil society organisations, private and public sector entities as well as research organisations. Funding schemes for NGOs include: (1) Framework agreement: Sweden’s support to NGOs in developing countries is channelled through a Swedish CSO that has a framework agreement with SIDA (currently 17 organisations) or (2) Humanitarian aid: New players have the opportunity to apply for eligibility as a strategic partner organisation to carry out humanitarian and conflict-related activities. Funding schemes for private sector entities include (co-funding 50%): (1) Public Private Development Partnership: The public and private sectors make a joint investment in a project implemented by a third party; or (2) Challenge Funds: To encourage new ideas and innovations in development cooperation, SIDA provides different actors the opportunity to compete for funding from challenge funds.

Eligible are Swedish, international and local organisations. The calls for proposals are published on their website under the sections ‘calls and announcements’ on a regular basis. Grant amounts and application procedures differ depending on the calls. It is also recommended for interested applicants to get in touch with the SIDA representative offices in the respective countries as funds are also managed locally. For private sector partners they recommend to get in touch with the embassy in the country of the suggested project.
