1) About

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system. Their work focuses on (1) climate change; (2) disasters and conflicts; (3) ecosystem management; (4) environmental governance; (5) chemicals and waste; and (6) resource efficiency.

4) Application Procedure

UNEP manages several awards such as (1) UNEP Sasakawa Prize which honours outstanding achievements in environmental thought and action, it is endowed with $200,000; (2) Champions of the Earth which is the highest environmental honour recognizing visionary people and organisations that exemplify leadership and advocate action on sustainable development and climate change; (3) SEED Awards to support the growth of SMMEs that deliver social, environmental and economic returns in developing countries with a $5,000 award for the winners and (4) Small Grants Program (sub-offices worldwide sometimes launch small grant programs on their websites). Also, civil society organisations can apply for accreditation for consultative status at UN Environment. This enables them to participate in the sessions of the UN Environment Assembly as well as its subsidiary organs. Organisations can create an account at the UNEP Accreditation Portal anytime throughout the year.
