Description
1) Objective
The Noel Buxton Trust was established by Noel Edward Buxton (later the first Lord Noel Buxton) in 1919 to achieve social and economic progress in Britain and throughout the world. For over eighty years the Trust has supported organisations promoting social change and improvement. In Africa, the Trust supports community-led organisations working to build local sustainable livelihoods. The focus for funding is on economic development rather than service provision. The Africa grants program seeks to support community-led organisations working to build local sustainable livelihoods. Funding is provided for small business support and training, and micro finance in both rural and urban settings.
2) Eligibility
Grants are generally offered to smaller, grass-roots organisation. Applications from diaspora led organisations based and registered in the UK or registered civil society organisations in Africa are particularly welcome. The Trustees welcome applications from diaspora led organisations based and registered in the UK .
3) Location
They work in Africa with a focus on semi-arid areas and urban slums in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan.
4) Budget
Their annual grant budget for Africa is very limited (around £30,000). The maximum grant is £10,000 per year for up to three years. Grants are not made for: buidling, expeditions, exchanges, holidays, study tours, visits, HIV/AIDS programmes, organisations set up primarily to treat medical conditions, physical disabilities or mental health issues, schools, including school infrastructure and teaching equipment and vehicles.
5) Application
The last round of funding ran from 1 January 2024 until 9 February 2024.
