Description
1) Objective
The AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge is a $100 million initiative by the Bezos Earth Fund to enhance climate and nature efforts using artificial intelligence. This global challenge aims to foster innovative AI-driven solutions in sustainable proteins, power grid optimization, and biodiversity conservation, while also welcoming visionary wildcard proposals. By bridging the gap between climate and nature organizations and AI experts, the challenge seeks to accelerate impactful environmental solutions.
The focus is on:
- Sustainable proteins
- Power grid optimization
- Biodiversity conservation
- Wildcard solutions
2) Eligibility
A Lead Entity, whether applying alone or jointly, must be either (1) a domestic U.S. organization that is exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, or (2) an academic institution from anywhere in the world.
3) Location
Actions can take place across the globe.
4) Budget
The initiative offers up to $100 million in total funding, distributed across three rounds. In the first phase, up to 30 seed grants of $50,000 each will be awarded. Successful seed grantees will advance to Phase 2, where up to 15 teams will receive up to $2,000,000 each for detailed implementation plans.
5) Application
Applications for the first round must articulate the proposed AI solution, its impact, scalability, resource requirements, and responsible development approach. Submissions are due by 5:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, July 30. Seed grantees will participate in a virtual Innovation Sprint, receiving mentorship and resources to refine their proposals. Final implementation plans will be evaluated, and selected teams will receive further funding to bring their solutions to life over two years.
