Description
1) Objective
Myriad USA brings together the expertise of the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) and Give2Asia, uniting two longtime partners. KBFUS changed its name to Myriad USA in January 2024. It enables U.S.-based donors to support their favourite causes and organizations overseas, and provides foreign non-profits with cost-effective solutions to raise funds in the United States.
An American Friends Fund provides foreign nonprofits with a cost-effective solution to receive tax-deductible gifts from supporters in the United States. With a Friends Fund, organizations avoid the trouble and expense of setting up their own U.S.-based charity. Myriad USA handles donor support and back-office administration, including tax receipts.
2) Eligibility
Foreign non-profits within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code can apply.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
They have channelled over $100 million in grants to foreign NGOs. Average grant size is $90,000. There is a one-time ‘set-up’ fee of $1,500 plus a management fee on the cumulative total of funds contributed to a Fund within a calendar year (0.5% to 5%) plus a 3% credit card processing fee.
5) Application
The first step to open an American Friends Fund at Myriad is to complete and submit the Due-Diligence Questionnaire (can be downloaded from their website), giving Myriad basic information about the charitable organization’s mission, administration, programs, funding sources, governance and leadership. Based on this information, they will determine if the applicant is the equivalent of a charity, within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code, and if the organization’s activities are consistent with Myriad guidelines and charitable purposes. Once the application has been approved, KBFUS will invite the organisation to enter into an agreement establishing the organization’s American Friends Fund. There are no deadlines.
