Description
1) Objective
The Amphibian Conservation Fund aims to combat the alarming decline of amphibian species globally. This initiative, spearheaded by zoo associations, zoos, and private participants in German-speaking regions, supports various conservation activities. These include direct conservation and research projects, conservation breeding, capacity building, habitat restoration, and education and awareness campaigns.
Managed by Stiftung Artenschutz, the fund is dedicated to projects that demonstrate a positive impact on threatened amphibian species, particularly those categorized as Critically Endangered, Endangered, and Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. The fund aligns with internationally recognized guidelines and seeks to enhance amphibian conservation through targeted, impactful measures.
2) Eligibility
Eligible projects must demonstrate a positive effect on threatened amphibian species’ conservation status. The fund supports activities such as direct conservation, habitat protection, relevant scientific research, local capacity building, and public awareness. Projects must ensure no negative impact on local or indigenous communities and must not be located in the US, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia. Costs directly related to project implementation, such as equipment and staff costs, are eligible, while negligible projects and those with a significant negative impact are not.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
The requested funding amount should not exceed €5,000, with partial funding being possible. The funding period is limited to 12 months from the project’s start date. Exceptions for longer durations can be requested before the application submission. All funds must be used within the designated period, and any unused funds must be returned.
5) Application
Applications for 2024 are accepted until 31 July 2024, 23:59 CET. Proposals are scored by neutral reviewers, and decisions are made by mid-November. Applications must be submitted in English (or German in exceptional cases) via email. Required documents include the application form, an up-to-date CV, a document verifying the NGO’s legal status, and a reference letter sent directly by the referee.
