Description
1) Objective
Faced with the undeniable level of plastic pollution in the Mediterranean, urgent action is needed. According to the Mare Plasticum report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 200,000 tonnes of plastic are dumped into the Mediterranean every year. In this context, Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) is launching its 10th Call for Micro-Initiatives (CMI). This programme aims to provide financial support for concrete field projects to combat plastic pollution in the Mediterranean region.
A micro-initiative is a local project aimed at reducing plastic pollution in a Mediterranean area, supported by a micro-grant. It contributes to reducing the production and use of plastic at source, raising public awareness, improving waste management, collecting scientific data and supporting the implementation of new regulations. These actions are designed to be replicable and to inspire other actors across the Mediterranean basin.
