Description

1) Objective

The Embassy of Canada to Brazil is pleased to launch its annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The CFLI is a program designed to support small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement. The program is directed at projects conceived and designed predominantly by local partners. Projects are selected and approved by the relevant Canadian embassy or high commission. The CFLI also serves to support positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries and their civil societies by deepening contacts and supporting local endeavours.

All projects must align with at least one of the following CFLI thematic priorities:

  • Human rights and human dignity (including groups that are victims of discrimination, such as black, brown, indigenous, quilombolas, LGBTQIA+, and refugees and migrant communities).
  • Inclusive governance, including diversity, democracy and the rule of law.
  • Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
  • Environment and climate action with a focus on adaptation and mitigation as well as water management.
  • Urgent and targeted response to emergent disasters or crises that support migrant and refugee populations and host communities, and are in line with Canada’s International Feminist Assistance Policy.

2) Eligibility

Organizations eligible for the CFLI are: (1) Non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations; (2) Local academic institutions working on local projects; and (3) International, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Brazil. For the 2024-2025 period, the CFLI – Brazil especially welcomes projects in the north and northeast of Brazil, and projects on human rights, diversity and inclusion, and/or indigenous rights.

4) Budget

The average CFLI contribution is $30,000. Please note that all contributions are made in Canadian dollars and then converted to the local currency.

5) Application

The timeline for submission of concept notes is March 18, 2024, through April 1, 2024, at 23:59. Applications sent after this deadline will not be considered. The concept note application form can be obtained by writing to the following email: BRSLACFLI@international.gc.ca
