Description
1) Objective
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supports small-scale but high-impact and results-oriented projects in developing countries, which align with the six action areas that guide the Government of Canada’s international assistance. The program is directed at projects conceived and designed predominantly by local civil society organizations (CSOs) and other grassroots organizations.
All projects must align with the following CFLI thematic priorities:
- Democratic governance and human rights: Increasing the inclusion and meaningful participation of women, youth, ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities, in political and governance processes.
- Security threat reduction and security system reform: Raising awareness and addressing risks stemming from the nexus between illegal mining, governance gaps, economic insecurity, conflict, and radicalization. This includes efforts by civil society, institutions and the media.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants are: (1) local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organisations; (2) local academic institutions working on local projects; (3) international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organisations and agencies working on local development activities; (4) municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects; and (5) Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations that are working on local development activities.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Ghana.
4) Budget
The average CFLI contribution is between $25,000 and $45,000 Canadian dollars.
5) Application
The deadline for submission is May 10, 2026, at 23:59 (GMT). Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
