Description

1) Objective

The Embassy of Canada to Guatemala and High Commission to Belize is pleased to launch its annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). All projects must align with at least 1 of the following CFLI thematic priorities:

  • Democratic Governance and Human Rights: supporting democratic governance, advancing rule of law and justice reform, upholding human rights.
  • Peace and Security: supporting violent conflict and violence prevention, crisis response and sustainable peace; supporting security threat reduction and security system reform; preventing and countering violent extremism.
  • Growth that works for everyone: promoting inclusive markets and entrepreneurship; promoting financial security and resilience.
  • Environment and Climate Change: strengthening environmental governance; investing in low-carbon and climate-resilient economies.
  • Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls: supporting strong and sustainable women’s rights organizations and movements; supporting evidence-based policymaking, legal frameworks and program delivery for gender equality.

2) Eligibility

Eligible recipients include: (1) local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organisations; (2) local academic institutions working on local projects; (3) international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organisations and agencies working on local development activities; (4) municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects; and (5) Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations that are working on local development activities.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Guatemala and Belize.

4) Budget

The average CFLI contribution is $30,000 to $60,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD$100,000 is the maximum allocation amount for a project eligible under CFLI).

5) Application

The deadline for submission is May 8, 2026, at 23:59 (GMT-6). Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered. For questions about the application process, please contact gtmla-gr@international.gc.ca.
