Description

1) Objective

Global Fund for Women provides grants for operating and program expenses, as well as small grants to organize and participate in events. They believe that investing in grassroots women’s rights is the single most effective way to create change because it gets to the root of the problem instead of just alleviating the symptoms. Their vision is that every woman and girl is strong, safe, powerful, and heard. They invest in women’s human rights by getting money and support to women-led organisations that are fighting for justice in their own communities. Priorities respond to the current realities and aspirations of women and girls in different parts of the world.

Under the Crisis Grants, Global Fund for Women invites women’s rights groups to apply for crisis grants to respond to the following crisis situations: (1) climate and natural disasters; (2) public health crises; (3) sudden and drastic increases in political violence. In the past, Global Fund for Women has given grants to organisations providing crisis response to infectious disease outbreaks, large-scale floods, and sudden, massive displacement of people due to political violence.

2) Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a grant applicant must: (1) be based in a country outside the United States. They do not fund US-based organisations; (2) have a primary focus on advancing women’s equality and human rights, with these goals clearly reflected in its activities; (3) be governed, directed, and/or led by historically marginalized communities. Groups do not need to be registered non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to qualify for funding. They do not fund international organisations proposing projects with local partners.

3) Location

Actions can be implemented worldwide.

4) Budget

There are no indications about grant sizes available. Their yearly grant budget is around $17,000,000 for app. 400 grants (average grant size is $41,000 per year). Grants range from a few thousand $ up to $500,000.
