Description
1) Objective
The Australian Government’s overseas aid program is funded by the Australian Government and managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). DFAT is working with Solomon Islands on activities that alleviate poverty and have real impacts on the lives of poor people. The Australia–Solomon Islands bilateral partnership is changing lives by: (1) improving health and education; (2) boosting economic growth through better infrastructure and improved economic management; (3) protecting the poor and vulnerable from shocks; and (4) supporting democracy, justice and good governance. The emphasis of the program is on alleviating basic humanitarian hardships and improving living standards.
DAP cannot assist with the following: administrative costs, fundraising events, vehicles (including cars/trucks, boats, motorbikes),outboard motors, consumables (including petrol, fertilizer, chemicals) religious activities, church buildings, overseas trips, micro-credit schemes, personal commercial ventures, sporting/musical equipment, cultural activities, generators, lawn mowers, chainsaws, stationary/photocopiers, teachers housing or goods to sell in a trade store.
2) Eligibility
Projects should be of a self-help nature and include community contributions. They strongly encourage applications for projects that benefit disadvantaged groups such as women, youth, persons with disabilities and isolated communities.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Solomon Islands.
4) Budget
Applicants may apply for a maximum SBD200,000 ($25,000) for projects that take up to one year. Applicants should be aware that not all projects can be supported as there are limited DAP funds available and the number of requests, even for projects that fall within these guidelines, far exceed the level of funding available. The DAP Committee prefers projects under SBD200,000.
5) Application
Applicants must provide the following information: (1) a completed application form including a detailed project description, timeline and budget; (2) an endorsement letter from the relevant provincial or national government ministry; (3) two quotations for all the materials involved in the projects; (4) a map detailing where your proposed project is located; (5) any projects which involve building must include a building diagram or plan; (5) return postal address (a PO Box number is favourable) on the application form and a telephone contact number.
