Description
1) Objective
The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is a grant making foundation that supports local, national and regional women’s organisations working towards the empowerment of African women and the promotion and realisation of their rights. By specialising in grant-making and focused, tailored movement-building programmes, they work to strengthen and support the work of African women’s organisations.
This grant will resource organisations to dismantle the barriers to economic justice and equality for African women, girls and gender diverse persons by reimagining economies, and rethinking mechanisations, craft, and intellectual knowledge from micro to macro level.
2) Eligibility
Nascent or small grassroots organisations and networks and unregistered groups and networks led by African women, girls and gender-diverse persons in countries and communities experiencing conflict. Priority will be given to organisations and unregistered groups that focus on women’s health, femicide, domestic violence, sexual violence and other forms of violence against women, and women, peace and security.
3) Location
This grant is open to applicants from all geographical regions of Africa meeting the conflict-affected description provided.
4) Budget
Applicants can apply for between $5,000 and $30,000 to be implemented by December 2025. These are short term grants of not more than 6 months.
