Description
1) Objective
SoJo Europe, initiated by four European organizations with financial support from the European Commission’s Creative Europe program, is a pioneering 1.6-million-euro project aimed at revitalizing journalism in Europe. This two-year initiative focuses on enhancing cross-border, solutions-oriented, and investigative reporting, particularly on climate change. Addressing the challenges of news avoidance and declining trust in media, SoJo Europe seeks to go beyond traditional watchdog journalism by fostering collaborative, constructive storytelling.
The project includes training, grants, mentoring, study tours, and an international conference to promote greater collaboration among European newsrooms and increase revenue through solutions journalism.
2) Eligibility
The project targets news outlets from all Creative Europe participating countries: EU27, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Ukraine. SoJo Europe is specifically looking for 18 European newsrooms to collaborate and receive training and mentoring in solutions journalism with a focus on climate change and combining investigative and solutions journalism.
3) Location
Eligible countries include EU27 member states and Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Ukraine.
4) Budget
The total grant budget is €320,000 to distribute.
5) Application
The deadline for the public open call is 04 April 2024, 13:00 CET Brussels. News outlets interested in participating in SoJo Europe should prepare and submit their applications by this date.
