Description
1) Objective
The Darwin Initiative is a UK Government grants scheme that supports communities to find just, scalable, and sustainable ways to conserve and restore nature while growing their economies and reducing poverty. Darwin Initiative Extra will provide grants between £1 million and £5 million, for projects that are on a clear scaling pathway: building on good evidence from previous Biodiversity Challenge Funds projects demonstrating the potential to scale further by completion and facilitating better biodiversity conservation and poverty outcomes. Darwin Initiative Extra projects should last between 2 to 5 years maximum.
2) Eligibility
Applications must come from an organisation(s), and not an individual. Applicant organisations can be based in any country. Lead organisations will need to demonstrate turnover over the last 2 years of at least 25% of the value of the funds requested from Darwin.
3) Location
Least Developed Countries, Other Low Income Countries, Lower Middle Income Countries and Upper Middle Income Countries are eligible.
4) Budget
Darwin Initiative Extra will provide grants between £1 million and £5 million.
5) Application
The deadline is 1 July 2026.
