Description
1) Objective
Set up in 1979, the objectives of the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust have closely followed the interests of the Ferguson family in their commitment to education, peace and development in the Third World. The trust’s grant making policy is focused on achieving its objectives for the public benefit by concentrating its resources on the following purposes:
- The support of education in the UK & overseas
- The promotion of peace through international friendship and understanding
- To support further sustainable progress in the developing world
2) Eligibility
Non-profit organisations are eligible to apply. The Trust aims to support projects both in the UK and abroad, and supports charitable organisations situated in the UK and overseas. However, all charitable organisations must be registered as a charity with the UK Charity Commission in order to be eligible for funding.
3) Location
The Foundation has no focus countries and provides grant funding across the globe.
4) Budget
Grants to charities will be on a matching funding basis only so that if the applicant has raised 50% of their budget the Trustees will consider awarding matching funding up to a maximum of 50%. However, if the applicant has raised less than 50% of their budget the Trustees will only consider awarding a maximum of 30% funding. Their annual funding volume for overseas projects is rather small and does normally not exceed $500,000. Previous international grants have been in the range of £10,000-£30,000.
5) Application
Applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year and applications for funding requests up to £50,000 are reviewed by the Trustees on a monthly basis. If applications for funding are more than £50,000, the application will only be considered at one of the bi-annual meetings of Trustees which usually take place around March and September every year. All applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s online application portal. Every application must include a narrative proposal (max. 150 words) and detailed budget and funding information. Grants to charities are provided on a matching funding basis: only if the applicant has raised 50% of their budget will the remaining 50% of the budget be funded by the Foundation.
