Description

1) Objective

Founded in 1977, the Seventh Generation Fund is an Indigenous non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and maintaining the uniqueness of native peoples and the sovereignty of their distinct nations. The Fund offers an integrated program of advocacy, small grants, training and technical assistance, media experience and fiscal management to Indigenous grassroots communities across the globe. The Seventh Generation Fund’s general grant-making program support projects engaged in community empowerment and organizing endeavors, issue advocacy, cultural revitalization, strengthening Indigenous knowledge and practices, and Native leadership development.

The Flicker Fund provides pandemic relief, wildfire response, and is designed for emergency response. It directs support to projects representing one or more of the following:

  • Basic And Urgent Health focusing on essential needs for wellness, sanitation and hygiene of the most vulnerable with a focus on elders, multi-generational households and families with children under the age of five years old​.
  • Traditional Healing Practices and Remedies supporting growing and cultivation of medicinal food systems, and culturally-relevant strategies for immune support.​
  • Historic and Cultural Teachings including – as appropriate – the sharing of prophecies, stories, and lifeways that advance traditional knowledge systems informing community members on health, healing, survival and thriving strategies, and moving forward with vitality.​

2) Eligibility

Organisations that wish to apply must meet the following requirements: (1) Be a non-profit organization with 501(3)(c) tax-exemption status; (2) Engagement, Leadership & Decision-making – 80% or more Indigenous Board of Directors / Leadership, with an Indigenous Executive Director; (3) Emerge directly from the community and are led by the Indigenous Peoples impacted by the project; and (4) Be in good standing with the Seventh Generation Fund.

Actions can take place across the globe.

4) Budget

Grant awards range up to $50,000 (average grant award is $20,000 – $30,000).

5) Application

Applications must be submitted via the online application portal until 2 December 2024.  Applicants should expect 10-12 weeks from the grant due date for the results of the proposal review to be announced.
