Description

1)  Objective

Established in 1991, the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) builds human and institutional capacity for good governance and economic development in Africa. ACBF supports capacity development through investments, technical support, knowledge generation and sharing across Africa. Their funding rests on three strategic pillars: (1) enhancing critical capacities to promote political and social stability for transformational change, through building transparency and enhance accountability of processes and improving participatory and inclusive decision processes; (2) enhancing capacity to engage and regulate the productive sector, through policy institutes and think tanks and efforts that support skills building of ministerial staff responsible for implementing policies would be given special attention for scaling; and (3) enhancing capacity to track policy impact, through assessment of capacity at the country and regional levels including special emphasis on enhancing long term and strategic planning in key ministries as well as support to the statistical requirements for tracking policy impact.

ACBF supports projects with three types of investments: (1) full-fledged projects for capacity building interventions spanning over 2-5 years; (2) seed capital; and (3) financing events organised in partnership with ACBF.

2) Eligibility

ACBF can receive project and program proposals from government ministries and departments, private sector and civil society organisations as well as regional institutions and universities.

They operate in Africa.

4) Budget

Project funding varies depending on the type of organisation and need of the project. Their grant portfolio ranges from $300,000-$5,000,000.

5) Application

Application forms for each type of grant funding can be downloaded on the Foundation’s website. All applications are to be addressed to the Executive Secretary. There are no deadlines.
